Carr,s claim that Google is making us stupid. Diamond claims that society makes
disastrous decisions. Both Authors are stating claims about the impact certain decisions have on us
as a society and a race .
Carr suport his claims with clear examples and facts . He state that the advent of the internet has
caused active reading to be extinct . He writes that we have difficulty focusing on long pieces of writing ; we zip along the surface" like a golfer on a jet ski" . We just power browse . He adds we are how we read and what we read. He goes on to state , we lack attention span and we are unable to read long books , we disengage from long articles. He reveals the media has form our neural circuit .
Our brain has reprogram itself , altering its function.
The invention of the clock according to Carr , has brought our mind to be more scientifically controlled , our behaviours are controlled by every tick .Society continues to be scientifically controlled with the revolution of the internet , the efficiency it offers has become a priority .
People has become machinelike . Any form of intelligence is now artificial.
Diamond,s claim is similar in that the decisions we are making is leading into catastrophe . We as a society is failing to succeed because we are killing our environment . We cut down trees that our environment depends upon without considering the consequence before we do it . Society stand back
watching this weakening occur without doing something about it . Diamond continue to show how our society is comprised of complex organizations to oversee these decisions and to intervene with correction, but they fail to do so repeatedly.
Diamond goes on to list several reasons why these organizations fail . Their inexperience to the problem ; their failure to anticipate the problem, only to list a few . His main claim for failure is the
term"behavior" . This concept, he says explains how some people can reasonable advance their own interests, all to the demise of the other . These people get away with employing this sense of reasoning because they get away with it and they reap big profits and interests for themselves.
We Learn by looking at these two authors, that they both are claiming, that we as a society are making decisions and creating inventions that is all for the "ME" . None of these decisions are
necessarily good for all , but for the profit of a few and and the annihilation of the many .
